The request is acknowledged

If the item is available and can be loaned or copied, most libraries will then acknowledge the receipt of the ILL request in some way.  This might be an email to the sender, a check-box in the ILL request program, or something similar.  This lets the requesting library know that their ILL is being worked on by a specific library.  If the request is not going to be filled, it is also important to communicate this information to the requesting library.
