Extending the borrowing period

Sometimes a patron will ask to keep an ILL book past its due date.  Some lending libraries will mark their ILLs “No Renewals”, and this must be respected by the borrowing library.  If this is not the case, look up the policy from the lending library to see if it allows for renewals.

Before the due date a phone call, librarian to librarian, is the most polite way to make this kind of request.  If you participate in an ILL network, there may also be a way set up to request renewals through the network.  If this is available, use this preferred method of contacting the lending library.
