Section II: Borrower Etiquette in Interlibrary Loan Transactions

As was explained in the previous section, ILL guidelines are beneficial and encourage cooperation because they outline the rights and responsibilities of the participating libraries in a cordial way.  Likewise, when the borrowing library follows the regular ILL procedures, it reaps the benefits of less work overall, a smoother workflow, and continued good relations with other cooperating libraries.

To understand this process better, the following section presents a step-by-step look at what should take place in the ILL process from the perspective of the library wanting to borrow an item.
